...I am storyboarding Robert Redford's new movie, "The Conspirator" which is filming right here in Savannah. Best. Job. Ever.

Also here's where they were filming the other night, Orleans Square, behind O-house...

23rd-Jun-2009 12:13 am - HEROESCON
Left out late, got sick while there, and left early...

BUT HEROESCON WAS AWESOME.

Lol k here's the story...

This year I was all OK I WILL BE PREPARED FOR CON SEASON. I WILL HAVE ALL MY SAMPLE ART DONE AND COPIED AND STAPLED AND ALL THAT GOOD STUFF LIKE 3 DAYS BEFORE THE CON STARTS.

Lol, no. Stayed up till 3 am the night before getting stuff ready. Woke up at 5 am and drove up to charlotte. Got parked at the westin 10 minutes before the doors opened, haha. Got inside and things seemed reaaaaaly slow... the con appeared smaller but apparently they just got a bigger hall this year so stuff was more spaced out. FINALLY got all my BLVD artbooks signed by the whole crew. I still needed Sean Chen and Tommy Lee Edwards's signatures. Edwards was surprised to see I was still lugging around volume 1 and was wondering when I got that "relic." Got my portfolio looked at by Sean Chen which was sweet, got to see his scribbles on the back of his boards (it's so cool to see artists' rough stuff, to see how they construct figures, etc.)

Got to see the 803 crew some more, same with my inker buddy Rob Jones. Still wondering when he's gonna introduce me to Dick Giordano, oh well, another con maybe.

Got to see Robert Atkins again. Man it's been so long since he was my intro to sequential art professor! Good to see he's getting along so well. Just looking at how far he's progressed since he was my professor makes me want to work that much harder. He also said he'd help me get a pitch I'm working on in some peoples' hands. Awesome. Made my day.

Bought a bunch of stuff, of which I will read and post reviews in later journals. Look forward to that.

So after the con closed came the inevitable bar hop, I started getting migraines that night though. I guess it was the stress/exhaustion/stupidity of the previous week's rush to prepare that finally came to a head (my head, ouch). Wasn't the alcohol, I hadn't even had much. Everyone was having fun and I was just kinda standing in a corner like "oh don't mind me, no srsly, I don't wanna ruin your fun, I'll just watch you guys NO SERIOUSLY I'M FINE STOP PAYING ATTENTION AND HAVE A GOOD NIGHT I'LL BE FINE" :|

Got to crash in a guest bedroom that my old roomie who lives in Charlotte so graciously provided. Such a nice house in a nice neighborhood. I really love Charlotte.

NEXT DAY THE CON WAS POPPIN AND I DIDN'T FEEL LIKE CRAP.
I actually really felt awesome. Walked in and went upstairs to see if my name was on the list to talk to a Marvel editor and whadya know, it was. Walked in and got a review. The editor said my superhero stuff still looks pretty generic, echoing what a lot of other people have said lately, which means I really have to get on the ball about finding my own personal way of seeing things. She asked me what I'd been reading lately and I told her how much I'd enjoyed 1985 and we both geeked out about TLE for a few minutes. Man, you wanna talk about a definitive style... Anyway, she really liked to see I was working on a pitch for some smaller publishers and told me to keep in touch! Finally I'm getting connections. :D

So that was basically the FIRST THING that happened that day. Officially the best con I've ever been to (and such a complete reversal of the disaster that happened the year before!)

Bought more stuff, and ended up getting a free print from one of my favorite artists just because I was a friend of one of his friends! And it was a $35 print...

Oh, and Dub mag was having a show that weekend in the adjacent hall. All of uptown was riding on 40". Srsly. I don't think I've ever seen such a high concentration of lowriders. It was awesome. But also loud. I prefer to hear engines rather than subwoofers ;D Also got to see one of the new camaros IRL for the first time. Do want. Badly.

Also bought more stuff. A little too much. (Japanese pokemon cards, seriously?!?)

So after getting dinner with some friends I came back to the westin where they were doing the art auction. I walk in and they're auctioning off some John Paul Leon goodness and I just say "OKAY, THIS HAS TO STOP. RIGHT NOW."

I couldn't spend anymore money. It just wasn't going to happen. Too bad there was still another day of the con but I was just gonna end up going home with another 10 lbs of books I wouldn't have time to read for months and months on end.

So I packed my stuff and went home! Simple as that, haha.

Left out of Charlotte around 10 pm. On the way back I wasn't paying enough attention to google maps and got I-20 and I-26 mixed up. Whoops. After that delay I got home at 3:30. Realized I'd left my curling iron at Emma's house in Charlotte. Whoops.

So I was driving down the street and some chick in a bikini saw my windows were down so she ran out in the street as I was driving by and started shooting a squirt gun at me.

Savannah is weird.
